GENRE
My film will not follow typical genre conventions, and the closest that it will come to a traditional genre is an art house thriller of sorts. My main influences are Gaspar Noe’s “Enter the Void” (more stylistically) and “Seul Contre Tous” (with presentation and narration) the Safdie Brothers’ “Good Time” (in terms of narrative and pacing).
Although I am hugely influenced by these filmmakers, I will not let that get in the way of originality, and I will try to create an original piece that brings something new to the table without trying too hard to emulate these directors.

This collage represents the aesthetic that I will try to attain in my work
NARRATIVE
Working title
renaissance club
Logline
The neon filled revenge tale of Tommy, an empty and emotionless man whose brother was murdered brutally. The only piece of evidence of the murder is a videotape of it, which he watches over and over again. In his dreams he believes he sees truth, which he uses to investigate the identity of the murderer.
Characters
Tommy
The protagonist and narrator, a seemingly depressed person who is internally empty. Spending most of his time isolated from everybody else, he finds serenity through rewatching a tape of his brother, Tyler, being murdered in an alley over and over again.
Kevin
The youngest brother of the three, Kevin is brutally murdered in an alleyway prior to the movie’s setting. He remains nondescript throughout the film and his personality and not much attention is payed to his backstory by Tommy in the narration.
Tyler
Tommy’s younger brother, who he has always despised for unknown reasons. Not much is revealed about Kevin other than that he’s the middle child between Tommy and Kevin, and has always had an inferiority complex to both of them which lead to conflict.
Rundown of the plot
In a postmodern, desolate, neon-filled English city, Tommy finds a conflicting sense of a affirmation by persistently isolating himself and repeatedly watching a short clip of his brother, Kevin, being brutally murdered in an alley by a man whose face is concealed by a hood and cloth. After another day of watching the tape of the killing over and over again, he goes to sleep and dreams that he is on the sight of the murder. He harnesses his lucidity and sees the face of the killer (which is out of focus to the viewer), who he believes to be his younger brother Tyler. After seeing this he is shocked back to reality. He jumps out of his bed and is convinced that the dream allowed him to find the truth, he prepares to confront Tyler. After reaching Tyler's home, he knocks on the door and stabs him as soon as he answers. Tommy dashes away across streets until he finally reaches a bridge. With his newfound sense of closure, Tommy throws the tape over the bridge before the camera holds over the view of the river before fading out. During the credits scene, the full recording of the alley murder is shown again, letting the viewer see that Tommy was actually the killer all along.
Target audience
The target audience for my film is people who are looking for something different from the standard film, and are more interested in the minimalist cinematography and style rather than a typical 3 act structure plot. This can be male or female, mostly aged 18-35 and is for sort of a more niche audience, however I am aiming the film to be around 3 and a half to 4 minutes long so that it is still accessible and watchable to a wide audience.
I tried to implement my own unique style influenced by the visuals I have seen in the films that have influenced me, such as Enter the Void and Good Time. This will not be directly copied from these films, but rather a homage to them.

COSTUMES & PROPS
The only prop that I will have to acquire is the old TV. I already have a VCR and a tape so I will not need to buy them. The vintage TV and VHS will be used in order to give the scenes with it in a more desolate feel. The TV I will try to source for free from classified ads and arrange for pick up before I initiate filming.
I also already own the prop knife and all of the costumes will be provided by me and my cast from what we already have in our wardrobes. All black clothing will be used in the darker scenes and lighter, colorful clothing will be used during more bright scenes in order to pop out more and give the film a further stylistic touch.
LOCATION SCOUTING & RECCE
The three main shooting locations will be:
I have obtained permission to use my friend’s house for filming and I will ensure that I attain the written consent in order to film on this private location
There will be natural lighting used in the last 2 locations. In my house, colored LED lighting will be used to give the neon aesthetic seen in my collage. I’ll also try and color grade the naturally lit scenes in post production to stylize the overall film more.

The alleys near Ashwood St. (formerly going to be used for the alley scenes)
Update - Instead of filming here, I have decided to shoot the scene in a back alley between Woodstock Ave and Weldon Ave in Grangetown. This area will provide better lighting and will be closer to the other exterior shooting location. I visited this area and after looking at the surroundings I think it will be a better fit for the film.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

I have considered all the hazards associated with the production of my film and i have come to the conclusion that the risk of a health a safety incident is incredibly low. I will take the necessary precautions to ensure that all of my cast and crew are treated well during the filming and are safe at all times.
STORYBOARDS

These storyboards roughly outline what I intend the key scenes to look like in the film
SHOOTING SCHEDULE

I plan to shoot my film on the 21st and 26th of February. These are dates where I can get all of my cast and crew assembled in order to film every scene. I have organised to meet everyone on these days from 5pm until 9pm. All outdoor scenes will be shot on the 21st with the exception of a few in between shots, which will be shot after the interior scenes are shot on the 26th.
ADDITIONAL MATERIAL
My soundtrack will consist of one track from old Stimulus Progression tapes from the 1970s. All of this music is copyright free and free to use which will make my film completely legally covered and able to be shown in a professional environment. This will be the only music featured in the film.
